Jai - received blood products for leukaemia treatment

Jai is 11 years old and loves basketball, many other sports and the outdoors. But life was very different in 2002 when he was first diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. There were times when his red cell count was so low that his heart wouldn't have coped without the boost from the transfusions.

Fortunately, Jai has been given the all-clear, but will still need more chemotherapy and blood products as part of his maintenance treatment. This means he still needs the support of blood donors to keep him healthy.

After a basketball career playing for his beloved Townsville Crocodiles, Jai wants to become a doctor so he can help other people.

A message to donors from Jais mum, Kate: "I could not imagine my life without Jai and neither could his three brothers. Thank you to the generosity of Australias blood donors."
